Let's Focus Development Center for Women was established in 2006 and is dedicated in helping ex-women offenders (EWOs) who were formerly incarcerated in a California Women's Jail and/or Prison incorporate themselves back into society by giving them the rehabilitation skills that have been extremely limiting or nonexistence when they come from doing time on the Inside, behind the walls.

Let's Focus educates EWOs, their families, the public and policy makers about women in the criminal justice system and promotes other methods to custody and the need for rehabilitation services in/out of prison.

Let's Focus advocates for the rights of EWOs as Prison causes damage and disruption to the lives of vulnerable women, most of whom pose no risk to the public.

Let's Focus believes that taking the most troubled individuals out of society and punishing them in order to teach them how to live within society is, at best, ineffective. Whatever else a prisoner knows, she knows everything there is to know about punishment because that is exactly what she has grown up with. Whether it is childhood sexual abuse, neglect, lack of concern; punishment is most familiar to her. Prison does not work. The best way to cut women's offending is to deal with its root causes. Let's focus on doing our part to change this.

MISSION STATEMENT

Our Mission is to provide women who have been incarcerated in a California Jail and/or State Penitentiary regardless of race, religion or background, a list of community resources that will assist them in Counseling, Housing, Parenting and Educational services and Job Skills Assessment, Training and Placement in an effort to promote self and educational awareness for to result in positive change and life stability.

VISION STATEMENT

Our Vision is open a one-stop development center that will have all the services stated in our mission statement. To also train women in a three-month job-training program that will consist of computer and job skills training, etiquette, mentoring, and internships at major corporations and non-profit organizations.

LONG TERM GOAL

Our Long-term Goal is the Starting Over home where 6-8 women will go through a 6mo-1yr. program that will work 1-1 with an intake counselor to ensure the mission and vision of Let's Focus and the Buddy system, where an EWO who has successfully made it within the program/system will encourage, inspire and assist these women with moral support so they can have encouragement to succeed.
